Cleanroom gowning benches come in various styles, and selecting the appropriate one is essential. If you plan to use the gowning bench as a partition between the “clean side” and the “dirty side,” it is recommended to opt for a bench with a solid base. This design prevents contaminants from passing under the bench and entering the clean area. Solid base benches are available with or without storage options. Whichever style you choose, ensure that the bench can be securely bolted to the floor. Bosio benches, for example, feature a tab and hole for this purpose. When determining the size, carefully consider your airlock’s dimensions.
Choosing the Appropriate Size
Choosing the correct size is crucial for your airlock. Standard bench sizes range from 3 to 7 feet in length, with a typical height of 16 to 18 inches. If the benches will be placed between walls, leave approximately 1 to 2 inches of clearance on each side to facilitate cleaning.
Maintaining Cleanliness
Maintaining cleanliness is of utmost importance. Take note of the sealed underside featured in the accompanying photo; this is a typical feature of all Bosio benches. If the airlock requires decontamination with harsh chemicals, it is recommended to use type 316L stainless steel. Pedestal legs offer a cleaner design and are generally suitable for most applications.
Consider Storage Requirements
Recent Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) changes mandate dedicated shoes for cleanrooms. If the shoe storage bench serves as a partition, you have the option to choose one side closed or leave both sides open. Many customers utilize shoe storage benches to store booties in the compartments.
